Today was the hottest day of the year. Yesterday seemed to be the 2nd
hottest, and our load-in at the Belly Up in San Diego was on the sunny
side of the street so we were drenched with sweat. I guess we didn’t
have too much to complain about though, ‘cause some new friends of ours
that played after us, The Hypo Twins, are from the lovely city of
Phoenix. Yesterday in SD was paradise for them.
(sidenote: as I’m writing this my baby girl of 6 months is trying to
fall asleep but instead she’s just crying NONSTOP).
The show was fun, and even though the club was only slightly above 5%
full, it was amazing to perform at such a nice venue. There was beer
for the band, perfect sound, and a generous radio station there to make
it all happen. We had a lot of fun, saw some old friends, and met some
new ones. I met some guy after the show who, after claiming to love our
set, told me about how he got in a verbal argument with his 15 year old
daughter and decided to ditch her and come to the show. That’s local
support :-p. Although it just doesn’t sound right…
Sarah, my wife, made sure baby Neely was taken care of. Her and her
bff, Lulu, took turns holding a sleeping girl behind the club while the
other one would watch what they could of the show. Neely, as always,
was adored by everyone who was near the load in area.
Being the absent minded guy I am, I left all of our merchandise in the
car, and I didn’t realize it until half way through the show when I was
telling people to buy CDs…. Whoops. We have CDs for sale about 1/2
mile from the club at Lou’s Records, but I forgot, of course, to mention
that. Being the lead singer is tough: you have to know all your
instrument parts, the set order, a ton of lyrics, and all the info about
merch, upcoming shows and records, etc. We need an MC!
We had a great time though, and we can’t wait to play there again!
